World Wine Tasting and Lecture Series
Culture in a GlassDo you want to improve your tasting skills, increase your wine knowledge, and have a good time? Then this wine education series is for you! You need not be a "wine expert" to attend these fun and educational classes. Just bring a sense of adventure and a love of good wine. See You There! When: Friday Evenings 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Where: Mary Grupe Center on the Ellensburg campus. See the map at: www.cwuce.org/map.asp Who: The program is open to anyone who is interested in the exciting world of wine and is 21 years of age or older. RegistrationBe sure to register early as these popular classes fill up quickly! Seating is limited to sixty and pre-registration is required. There will be no at-the-door ticket sales. Payment must be made at the time of registration to secure your space. As per policy, refunds may only be granted if we receive notice of cancellation at least 10 days prior to class.

1. The Wines of France: Northern France
Friday, October 1, 2010 Location: Grupe Center, 5:30 p.m. Instructor: Amy Mumma Start with a toast to the fabulous wines of Northern France with a luxurious Champagne. Next, discover the Dry Rieslings of Alsace, the gems of the famous region Burgundy, and take a tasting cruise along the longest river in France to enjoy some of the wines of the Loire Valley.
2. The Wines of France: Southern France
Friday, November 5, 2010 Location: Grupe Center, 5:30 p.m. Instructor: Amy Mumma Let this class transport you to warm sunshine, lavender fields, and the blue Mediterranean Sea. Taste the world famous wines of Bordeaux, Syrah and Grenache from the Rhône Valley, the wines from Provence, and the wines from the rugged coastal area of Languedoc.
3. The Wines of Spain & Portugal
Friday, January 14, 2011 Location: Grupe Center, 5:30 p.m. Instructor: Amy Mumma Shake off the winter chill to taste the warmth of Spanish and Portuguese wines. Begin with a Cava, the sparkling wine of the mountainous Penedes region of Spain, followed by fresh whites and robust reds. Learn about the rising region of Portuguese wines and taste the differences between a Tawny and a Ruby Port.
4. The Wines of Italy
Friday, February 18, 2011 Location: Grupe Center, 5:30 p.m. Instructor: Amy Mumma Let the love affair with Italian wines begin! In this class we will travel from the northern parts of Italy to the sun-drenched south with a wide variety of wines and grapes unique to Italy. Start with the delicate Moscato d’Asti, then continue working your way through Italy’s famous red wines including Chianti Classico, Barolo, Barbera, and maybe even a Super Tuscan! Your journey will finish on a sweet note with a traditional Vin Santo.
5. The Wines of Chile & Argentina
Friday, March 11, 2011 Location: Grupe Center, 5:30 p.m. Instructor: Amy Mumma Visit our cousins to the south to tour the wine heartlands of Chile and Argentina. Taste Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Chilean style. Plus, taste Carménère, the signature grape of Chile. Specialties of Argentina will include the white wine Torrentes and a fabulous Malbec!
6. The Wines of Australia & New Zealand
Friday, April 8, 2011 Location: Grupe Center, 5:30 p.m. Instructor: Amy Mumma G’day mate, welcome to the land down under! Take a walkabout to discover Australian wines from dry Rieslings to lush, full-bodied Shiraz from the Barossa Valley. A tour of New Zealand will bring us the famous Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough and Pinot Noir from the southernmost wine growing area in the world, and a few other surprises!

Amy Mumma founded the Central Washington University World Wine Program in 2003 to share her knowledge and love of wine. As program coordinator and lead instructor, her academic, trade, and consumer courses have reached thousands of people across the United States and around the world. Amy is a highly sought-after conference speaker, lecturer, and wine judge. She was awarded the prestigious title, Professional Wine Woman 2005-2006, the top award of the International Wine Women Awards competition in Paris, France. She holds an MBA in wine from the University of Bordeaux, the Advanced Certificate of Wine and Spirits from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust in London, and a Diploma of Tasting from the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France.
